Almost Famous

When people hear I play with the band Stillwater, they often ask if it’s the same band from the movie Almost Famous. Here’s the real story. We gave them permission to use our name, but the band in the movie was fictional and based on several bands that Cameron Crowe covered for Rolling Stone back in the early 70’s. Did Crowe see us play? Of course! He was in Macon a lot during those early days, hanging out at different Capricorn functions, covering The Allman Brothers and other great southern rock bands.

I had been bugged by the name of the band in the movie "Almost Famous" and wondered ... as I was a girl who listened to your two albums and was following your career. (I was super bummed at the Capricorn outcome.)

I borrowed the CD Almost Famous from the library, just to be sure. Dang! There you are!

I pulled out your LPs from my collection - even though I didn't get to play my records for the last 15 years, I still remembered some of the words.

I'm on the West Coast and unemployed, but if I ever wander your way, I'd love to go to your annual gig.

Peace out!

Mike,
Your website came up under searching for Ronnie Hammond. All of you are linked together. Too sad bout Ronnie. Take care, JKaye L. E.

Mike, I'll never forget the night I first heard of Stillwater. I was driving alone at night with the radio on,(WLIR) on Long Island if I recall. They played Sams Jam and I went nuts. My younger brother and me had a hell of a garage band then, doing Allmans, Tucker, etc. I couldn't wait to get home to tell him what I'd just heard. We've been loving you guys ever since. We saw you live with The Charlie Daniels Band and Mark Farner one night and never forgot it. You were our new hero. We were heart broken when Stillwater vanished, but today I found you again. We are going to get our asses down there for your reunion concert one way or another. We still eat, breathe, and sleep Stillwater. Looking so forward to seeing you and the band again.

Hey Mike, You don't know me and that's OK. I grew up in northeastern North Carolina 10 miles south of Murfreesboro and our live music venue, Hill's Pub where I first saw Stillwater. Man I fell in love with the band and your live shows were awesome! I have your first two albums and still spin them from time-to-time. I chased a dream of playing music for a living and joined the Dixie Road Ducks in 1980 and toured with them for only a year before I found out life on the road was hard. Southern Rock is in my DNA and still my go-to! I'm 62 and still love to crank it up!
I'm not sure what it would take to upload your music to Spotify but would love to enhance my Southern Rock Playlist with Stillwater if at all possible.
Also, we may have a mutual friend that lives down your way, his name is Garry Britt and we went to school together.
Anyway, thanks for listening and hope your are doing well!
